In what is becoming an unwelcome trend for movie studios, a bootleg version of the trailer to Sony's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man was leaked last night and was quickly taken down. (Recently, bootleg versions of the teaser trailers for both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises have been released online — both looking like the epitome of a bootleg recorded by someone's mobile device during the trailer's screening in a movie theater.) The trailer for Amazing Spider-Man was high quality, fooling several outlets into thinking they had the real thing. Today the official trailer was released.

The trailer was originally set to be released online Thursday, prior to the trailer premiering before showings of Captain America: The First Avenger as well as the movie's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Emma Stone, who plays Peter Parker's girlfriend Gwen Stacy in the movie, has already seen the trailer, telling MTV that she thought it was "amazing" (of course) and giving fans a preview of what will be shown this weekend.

Pre-production;
In May 2010, the list of actors to play Spider-Man included Jamie Bell, Josh Hutcherson, Frank Dillane, Alden Ehrenreich and Andrew Garfield, and in June 2010 the Los Angeles Times reported that the shortlist had expanded to include Aaron Johnson and Anton Yelchin. The final shortlist was reported to also include Logan Lerman and Michael Angarano.
On June 27, 2010, the final and confirmed short list was announced: Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Logan Lerman, and Alden Ehrenreich.
On June 9, 2010 rumors surfaced that the villain for the new reboot could be the Lizard. Reportedly Sony was interested in casting Christoph Waltz as the villain of the film, however Waltz's representatives denied his involvement. Michael Fassbender was also linked to the villain role before signing on to play Magneto in X-Men: First Class. On October 11, 2010, Rhys Ifans was confirmed to be the unnamed villain in the film. On October 13, 2010, it was reported that Rhys Ifans will be playing Dr. Curt Connors, a.k.a. the Lizard. On December 10, 2010, it was reported that Miles Elliot will be playing Billy Connors, the son of Dr. Curt Connors. On December 3, 2010, it was reported that the roles of the villain named Van Adder and his wife will go to Irrfan Khan and Annie Parisse, respectively.
On November 4, 2010, it was reported that the role of Uncle Ben would go to Martin Sheen. On November 4, 2010, it was reported that the role of Aunt May was offered to Sally Field. On November 12, 2010, Chris Zylka confirmed that he has been cast in an unnamed role. On November 20, 2010, it was reported that Chris Zylka will be playing Flash Thompson. On November 17, 2010, it was reported that the role of George Stacy will go to Denis Leary. On December 3, 2010, it was reported that the roles of Richard and Mary Parker will go to Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson, respectively. Reports have said that the character of J. Jonah Jameson will not be in the film.

Filming;
The film began shooting on December 6, 2010 in Los Angeles. The film is the first Hollywood production to be filmed with the RED Epic camera, and is being shot in 3-D at 5K resolution. The 90-day film shoot included two weeks in New York City, while the bulk of filming occurred in and around Los Angeles, including such locations as the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, St. John Bosco High School's Gym, Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Mid-Wilshire, and various locations around South Pasadena, San Pedro, and Woodland Hills.
